Director of Dietary Services (Hopewell, VA) River View on the Appomattox Health & Rehab Center, in Hopewell, VA has a career opportunity for a dynamic Director of Dietary Services to plan, organize and direct the operations of the Dietary Department.  This position will round out our team that is responsive, compassionate and caring to the needs of our patients, residents and their families. Successful service excellence candidates will have the following qualifications and ability to: Ensure that food, supplies, and equipment are purchased form approved vendors, received in good condition, and stored under proper temperatures. Maintain dietary expenses within budgeted limits. Provide financial records and cost reports as requested. Recruit and hire qualified staff and ensure that orientation and training is provided to allow employees to competently assume job responsibilities. Ensure that the department is adequately staffed according to the approved staffing pattern.  Complete and update dietary staff work schedule. Provide direct supervision to dietary staff. Ensure that meals, diet and supplements provided to each resident is in accordance with physician’s orders and established nutrition care plans as well as resident preferences and requests. Participate in the nutrition care of the resident by completing quarterly reviews, completing section K of the MDS as directed, interviewing residents for food preferences, and communicating nutrition concerns to the Dietitian. Establish and maintain productive lines of communication between dietary services and other departments. Participate in and/or provide in-service education sessions and staff meetings on a monthly basis. Operate and direct the dietary department according to established policies and procedures and local, state and federal regulations. Actively participate in the facility’s quality improvement and infection control programs. Work in conjunction with the Director of Nutrition Services to provide an enhanced dining program which allows resident choices. Attend and participate in interdisciplinary meetings. Attend continuing education programs in order to maintain certification. Promote and demonstrate a Service Excellence culture. Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position. Drug Free & EOEJob Requirements: Qualifications: Must meet one of the following: Be a registered dietitian or have a bachelor’s degree with major studies in food and nutrition from an accredited college or university OR Completed a Dietary Managers Association (DMA) approved program in Dietary Management OR Be certified by the Certifying Board of Dietary Managers of the Dietary Managers Association OR Have documented evidence of at least two (2) years of satisfactory work experience in food service supervision; enroll in an approved dietary managers program within 60 days of accepting responsibility for the position; and will successfully complete the program within 12 months of the date of employment. Knowledge of infection control, safety, and food handling standards. Must have good communication and interpersonal skills. Must be flexible, detail-oriented, ability to multi-task and be able to make effective decisions and work as part of a service excellence team.
