JOB DESCRIPTION* Please note this is a PART TIME positionSUMMARY: Assist the Raw Water System Manager (RWSM) in the operation and maintenance of the Raw Water System (RWS), including the monitoring and recording of supply and transfer of water to Wintergreen Resort properties and Nelson County Service Authority (NCSA). Must be able to operate, maintain and service large vertical turbine pumps and motors, electric check valves, pressure reducing stations, large steel and ductile steel pipelines, submersible pumps and motors, complex electrical control systems, etc. Responsibilities include daily operation, maintenance, and monitoring two water pumping stations, 11 raw water reservoirs, water diversion system, siphon system, underground and above ground pipelines, pressure reducing station serving NCSA water treatment plant, as well as coordination with Compressor Building Operator to insure constant, reliable water to serve NCSA water treatment serving Wintergreen Mountain Community, golf irrigation of 18 hole Devil’s Knob Mountain Golf Course, irrigation of Valley 27 hole golf complex, and ski area snowmaking system. Must be equipped with service truck and tools in order to cover the significant area and distance of the entire valley and mountain Raw Water System.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:* Complete daily, weekly, semi-monthly, monthly and annual preventative maintenance and operation of RWS, to include 24 hour-on-call as scheduled by R.W.S.M.* Assist with repairs, maintenance, alterations, additions, improvements and emergency repairs as required.* Respond to emergencies in a timely manner to insure continued operation of R.W.S.* The ability to respond to emergencies outside of the regular weekly schedule.* Communicates observations and status of the components of the R.W.S with R.W.S.M.* A basic understanding of mechanical equipment and familiarity with tools is required.* Reliability and good communication are a must.* The ability to mow and use a weed-trimmer, and perform other maintenance tasks including painting, and using tools to make mechanical repairs.* The ability to work independently for routine tasks.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:High school diploma OR GED equivalent AND two (2) years of experience in water systems including production, control and distribution. PreferKnowledge of:* Operational characteristics, services and activities of a complex raw water system.* Modern, complex principles and practices of raw water distribution system maintenance.* Methods and techniques of raw water distribution system construction and repair.* Methods, material, and equipment used in engineering, construction, inspection, and maintenance of a raw water system.* Applicable laws, codes, ordinances, safety, and health regulations related to water.* Confined space entry, fall protection, and hazardous materials regulations.* Standard tests for determining water levels and supply, automatic control valves and their maintenance, well and pump efficiency testing.* Operation and maintenance of portable engine generators.* Basic record-keeping and report-writing including budgets,* Water distribution procedures; equipment, materials, and tools used in the operation and maintenance of motors, engines, pumps, compressors, and other equipment.Skill in:* Using initiative, discretion, and judgment within established procedures, guidelines, and rules.* Defining problems, establishing facts and drawing valid conclusions.* Managing situations requiring diplomacy, fairness, firmness and sound judgment.* Interpreting and applying local, state, and federal policies, laws and regulations.* Communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing.* Reading and interpreting a variety of charts and gauges.* Keeping accurate records and preparing required reports including financial and analytical reporting.* Inspecting, operating, and diagnosing problems and performing preventative maintenance.* Interpreting documents such as safety rules, standards, and specifications, procedure manuals, detailed construction drawings, detailed contracts, maps, property descriptions, and detailed correspondence.* Operating computer and various software applications. Basic computer skills including proficiency with MSOffice software.* Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with department heads, contractors and vendors.* Applying safe work practices.LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:* Must possess a valid, unrestricted Virginia driver’s license upon hire and maintain throughout the length of employment.PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:* Work is performed in an indoor/outdoor environment. Incumbent shall be exposed to conditions normally encountered in an outdoor environment and including travel from site to site.* Incumbent wears prescribed personal equipment protection including protective footwear.* Physical demands consist of sitting, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling; using hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and lifting and carrying moderately heavy objects up to 50 pounds and/or utilizing a hand dolly to move up to 100 pounds.* Incumbent frequently works near moving mechanical parts and pressurized equipment, occasionally works in high, precarious places and can be exposed to electrical hazards.
