SAIC: Senior image science engineer


This is a Full-time position in Chantilly, VA posted March 26, 2020.

Description SAIC has an immediateneed for a Senior Image Scientist with image chain analysis experience.

Candidate will serve as the dedicated SMEoverseeing factory acceptance testing (FAT) for a suite of electro-opticalimage processing algorithms as well as workingto define appropriate product quality metrics to ensure accuracy and integrityof the image data and products delivered to users.

Major duties of the positioninclude: Review and assess test plans, use cases, and proceduresagainst functional requirementsEnsure contractor compliance with general algorithm developmentand testing best practicesAttend, monitor and report on aspects of actual testexecutionParticipate in review of issues associated with anomalies anddefects within processing algorithmsAssist in troubleshooting issues uncovered during testing,and stay actively involved as new versions are released to address discrepancyreports (DRs) uncoveredSupport product evaluations, quality studies, new productinitializations, and product algorithm assessmentsRefine image quality equation to quantify the expectedquality of a system given various parametersDecompose product formation elements to quantify the overallquality of the image chainAlgorithm assessment to quantify the performance of a productgiven desired mission applicationPerform baseline assessment of system performance to supportsensor initializationMonitor of system performance over timeRespond to detected errors and artifacts by recommending possiblecauses and corrective actionsCommunicate issues and solutions to the broader governmentand contract management structure as requested by leadershipDevelop alternative courses of action, work-arounds, andfallback positions with a recommended course of action for each risk, andmonitor and re-evaluate risks at appropriate milestones Successful candidates must have demonstratedknowledge and hands-on experience with: Assessing the performance of animaging system in terms of the interaction of various system componentsDesigning user experiments forthe purpose of understanding system design impacts or identifying optimalparameter settingsExplaining complex imagingphenomena to government and corporate managementApplying image science and systemengineering experience with sensor phenomenology, image formation processes,and development of operational/prototype processing algorithmsReviewing and supporting thedevelopment and testing of new imagery productsImage chain analysis to include sensormodeling, signal quality and noise, optics, detector calibration, and imageprocessing of pixel dataApplication of error estimationApplication of proper design ofexperiments Qualifications Active TS/SCI clearance with PolyDegree in Image Science,Electrical Engineering, Math, Physics, or related scientific or technicaldiscipline or equivalent experience, and nine (9) or more years of image science andsystems engineering experience, with demonstrated proficiency performing imagechain analysis Working knowledge of satelliteTCPED functionsExperience working withElectro-optical image platformsImage processing and digitalsignal processing experienceSimulation and modelingexperienceWorking understanding andpractical application of modeling components of the image path to includesensor, detector, atmospheric and material propertiesUnderstanding and application ofimage quality standards, scales, metrics and image quality equationsSignificant applied knowledge ofsensor imaging systems, products, and exploitation processesStrong written and oralcommunication skills, with emphasis on briefing to obtain decisions and solvetechnical issues and test plans/reports writingAbility to work independently andwithin a team environmentGood customer teaming skills;ability to collaborate in cross-functional teamsStrong interpersonal, problemsolving, organizational, and multi-tasking skillsWillingness to learn, solveproblems and perform in a dynamic work environmentDesired Qualifications MS or PhD in Image Science,Electrical Engineering, Math, Physics or related scientific or technicaldisciplineExperience working in a DoD or ICoperational environmentKnowledge of ground processingarchitectures and image processing algorithms for passive remote sensingsystems Experience defining, designing,developing and testing remote sensing systems and associated products Experience developing engineeringcode to solve hard problems and create process for repeatable resultsFamiliarity utilizing multipletool suites for development of engineering code such as Python, Matlab, ENVI,etc.Familiarity with Common CloudServices (C2S) utilized within the ICExperience planning and executingsensor initializationsExcellent written, verbal, and presentationskills, and ability to lead technical forums SAIC is a premier technology integrator solving our nation’s most complex modernization and readiness challenges.
