*What You Will Do: *
The Infection Preventionist (IP) has an integral role in the organization-wide patient safety program. In conjunction with the Infection Control Specialist and Director assists in coordinating a comprehensive organization-wide infection surveillance, prevention and control program in accordance with current requirements of regulatory, government and accrediting/licensing agencies and organizational policies and procedures. The IP performs surveillance for healthcare-associated infections (HAIs); collection, analysis, interpretation and reporting of surveillance data; outbreak investigation; program evaluation and antibiotic stewardship. Based on review of program, IP will assist in development of a risk assessment at least annually. The Infection Preventionist collaborates with all staff within the facility in process improvement activities that relate to prevention HAIs including participation in committees or teams that focus on infection prevention activities, provides education on system-based causes for HAIs, consults with management and staff, and provides literature on evidence based practices related to HAI prevention strategies. The Infection Preventionist job necessitates planning, developing, directing, implementing and evaluating infection prevention and control activities within the hospital. The Infection Preventionist provides consultative support and subject matter expertise throughout VHS. In order to validate level of competency, IP must fulfill necessary requirements to take certification exam and maintain certification. Other job duties as assigned.
*What You Will Bring: *
*Education*
Bachelors Nursing (BSN) required, or obtain within 24 months
MSN preferred
*Experience*
Minimum of 3 years clinical hospital experience preferred
Previous experience in Infection Prevention preferred
Knowledge and experience in areas of patient care practices, microbiology, asepsis, cleaning, disinfection and sterilization, adult education, infectious diseases, epidemiology, statistics, communication and program administration preferred
Experience with navigating patient medical records and automated documentation systems required
*Certification & Licensures*
Registered Nurse license required
Obtain Board Certification in Infection Control (CIC) within three years of hire/transfer
*Qualifications*
Self-directed with ability to work effectively and efficiently with multiple interruptions and changing work priorities required
Ability to effectively handle sensitive and high stress situations required
Strong organizational and time management skills required
Ability to handle multiple tasks required
Attention to detail required
Ability to make quality, independent decisions using analytical and problem solving skills required
Expertise in data mining, report writing and data presentations required
Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and interact with physicians, staff, patients and visitors, and team required
Excellent program and project management skills required
Strong leadership skills required
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications required
Familiar with relevant state, federal and accrediting agency requirements preferred
