Clever was founded in 2017 to change how real estate is bought and sold.

We connect home buyers and sellers with experienced, local real estate agents — and help them save thousands of dollars along the way.
Our customers usually find us through the fantastic content our team writes, and we’ve gone from fewer than 10,000 monthly readers to more than 600,000 in the past year.

Our PR team’s goal is simple but ambitious: To publish fascinating, data-driven reports that earn media attention.

What it’s really like to be a Data Journalist at Clever

Data Journalists work with our Data Analysts and PR Specialists to write newsworthy, data-driven studies.

Our insights are cited in a wide range of national and local publications that span real estate, personal finance, and beyond.

Here’s an idea of what your day-to-day will look like at Clever:

· Publish longform, data-driven studies about real estate, personal finance, and other newsworthy topics on our various web properties.

(Examples of studies you’ll be writing can be found here, here, and here.)

· Use a journalistic mindset to tease out the angles and arguments most likely to generate news coverage

· Collaborate with data analysts to design consumer surveys and research methodologies

· Bring creative ideas to our team brainstorming sessions (including helping to shape our annual editorial calendar)

· Create beautiful visuals that bring our data to life (including maps, graphs, and more!)

Appear in web, print, radio, and television interviews promoting our research as needed

Within one month you’ll…

· Onboard with our talented PR team (including data analysts, fellow Data Journalists, and PR Strategists)

· Learn about our link building / PR strategies, including our flagship research studies, guest authorship program, and syndication relationships

· Brainstorm, outline, and write your first study, with support from our team leads

· Learn to upload articles in Clever’s Content Management Systems

· Receive constructive feedback to tailor your voice, style, and structure to Clever’s house style

Within three months you’ll…

· Publish a new study approximately once every three weeks

· Consistently publish studies that achieve our earned media goals

· Take ownership of your studies, collaborating with Data Analysts and PR Strategists throughout the drafting process

· Begin to master SEO strategies that will help your research rank for relevant keywords

· Represent Clever in web, print, radio, and/or television interviews

Within six months you’ll…

· Develop a strong understanding of how to pitch angles and arguments that are exciting to journalists

· Embrace our collaborative work environment by freely pitching your most creative ideas (even if they’re “half-baked”)

· Begin to explore new avenues for supporting our studies, such as social media, editing guest blogs, and more

Within 12 months you’ll…

· Play a key role in planning our annual editorial calendar

· Grow with the PR team in terms of professional, career, and financial development

· Lead new initiatives with the full support of Clever’s team and resources

Pay: $45,000.00
– $65,000.00 per year
