Job SummaryThe Certified Nursing Assistant is responsible for providing routine daily care toassigned residents. They assist residents with personal hygiene as well as participate inthe daily care of the residents.Qualifications Required• Must have an active Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in the state ofVirginiaPreferred• High school diploma or equivalent• Experience in long-term careKnowledge, Skills, & Abilities Necessary• Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of individuals• Ability to make independent decisions• Ability to read and understand written and oral instructions• Knowledge of nursing practices and procedures• Knowledge of laws, regulations, and guidelines governing nursing in a long-termcare facility• Ability to remain calm in stressful situationsJob Duties and Responsibilities Compliance• Must agree to comply fully with the terms of the Corporate Integrity Agreementbetween American HealthCare, LLC and the Office of the Inspector General of theDepartment of Health and Human Services• Must comply fully with American HealthCare’s Code of Conduct• Must comply fully with American HealthCare’s HIPAA Policies and ProceduresAssist Residents with Personal Hygiene• Assist residents with showers or baths as necessary• Help residents brush teeth, wash hair, and other grooming• Assist residents with bladder and bowel functions• Change linens and clothing as necessaryPerform Routine Resident Care• Turn residents every two hours• Answer call lights promptly• Make routine rounds to check on all residents• Obtain and record vital signs when needed• Monitor overall health and report changes in resident’s condition as they occur• Document and chart in a manner that justifies changes and demonstrates that the planof care is being followed• Cooperate with other departments to ensure that the Nursing Department can beadequately maintained to meet residents needs• Observe and report the presence of pressure areas and all other skin problems toprevent bedsores• Check incontinent residents routinely• Provide meal trays to residents• Assist with feeding of residents as necessary• Weigh and measure residents as needed• Assist with lifting, turning, moving, and positioning of residents• Transport residents as needed• Collect specimens as instructed• Make beds and change linens• Assist with dying residents and provide post-mortem care• Make sure resident’s room is ready for receiving resident• Inventory, mark, and store resident’s clothing• Assist residents to the designated smoking areas as neededOther Duties• Other duties as assigned by the supervisorJob ContextA regular full-time shift for the CNA is 7.5 hours. The CNA is an hourly, non-exemptemployee. Weekend work is a requirement of the job. Overtime hours may be required.Work PerformanceThe Director of Nursing and the Assistant Director of Nursing evaluate the jobperformance of this position. The LPN’s, RN’s and Unit Manager’s also evaluate the jobperformance of the CNA. Although the person in this position sits, stands, bends, lifts,and moves intermittently throughout the workday, the majority of their time is spent ontheir feet. The CNA performs their job mostly indoors. They perform outdoor dutiesonly as required by resident activities and running errands. The CNA is also subject tohostile and upset residents and family members. There is the possibility that they will beexposed to infectious waste, diseases, and conditions. The CNA may be exposed tosecond-hand smoke if assisting a resident to the designated smoking area.
