BOEING: Entry – Level Image Scientist


This is a Full-time position in Chantilly, VA posted October 14, 2020.

The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) organization is seeking an Entry-Level Image Scientist to join the Space & Launch Engineering Program and be a part of a team of Image Scientists in a production environment that supports advanced analytical capabilities, where customer focus, teamwork, and communication are critical.

This position will be located in the Chantilly, VA area.Position Responsibilities:Responsible for analyzing data and engineering support, and processing algorithms collected by sensors on intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) platformsAssists in developing and documenting requirements for various communication, sensor, electronic warfare and other electromagnetic systems and componentsPerforms basic analysis to predict component performance to established requirementsConducts simple tests to validate performance of designs to requirementsCollects data on supplier and partner performance to ensure compliance to requirementsProvides support to products throughout their lifecycleSupports project management by gathering project status dataGathers information to support development of sections of proposals to support development of new businessWorks under close supervisionThis position may include 24×7 work schedules on as needed basis to support program requirementsWork Authorization:This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S.

Top Secret Clearance Pre-Start is required.** This position is contingent upon customer approval**Basic Qualifications (Required Skills / Experience):Must obtain a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a technical field by the end of June 2021Coursework and / or work experience with sensor imaging systems, products, and exploitation processesPreferred Qualifications (Desired Skills / Experience):Coursework and / or work experience with the following: ENVI, SOCET GXP, Agility, Matlab, IDL, and UnixCoursework and / or work experience with collector calibration techniques (those necessary to maintain image quality)Coursework and / or work experience with Unix and Windows based workstations, various COTS packages including tools for product creation, modification and off-line analysis of image dataAbility to interpret results from onboard and offline algorithms and automated processors in order to address intelligence requirementsAbility to support the design, development, integration and maintenance of new software functionalityFamiliarity with overhead infrared sensor data to include sensor characterization, data analysis, sensor modeling, signature extraction and exploitation, and/or algorithm developmentAbility to investigate image product errors, and identify probable cause sources throughout the collection, processing and delivery chainUnderstanding and application of standard software engineering principlesFamiliarity with tools and techniques necessary to isolate probable error sourcesCoursework and / or work experience with various imaging systems (i.E.

HSI, EO, Radar, IR, LIDAR, SIGINT principles, etc), phenomenology and processing techniquesTypical Education / Experience:Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.G.

Bachelor) or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience.

In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.Relocation:Relocation assistance is not a negotiable benefit for this position.
