Vice President, Accounting

Purpose:The Vice President of Accounting is responsible for overseeing all accounting functions such as ledger accounts, financial statements, and financial systems. Their focus includes regulatory compliance and practices and collaborating with the CFO developing financial strategies. This is a senior financial leadership position that will serve as a key member of the financial leadership team. They must exhibit attention to detail, urgency in task completion, and a demonstrated ability to improve accounting operations and processes. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader who is able to develop and deliver strategic direction and guidance to the financial operations team and serve as a key consultant to the CFO.A key predictor of success for the VP, Accounting is a leader with a track record of significant strategic management of accounting operations, proven knowledge of regulatory compliance and experience in partnering with finance leadership in a publicly traded organization.Duties:This role will manage the corporate accounting functions and financial operations for the organization to include:* Corporate ControllershipProvide support, point of escalation for American Woodmark corporate controllersOversee accounts payable, accounts receivable and fixed asset accounting strategyDirect the accounting operations of the organization and develop strategiesManage the month/quarter/year-end close processProvide direction and mentorship to the teamContinuously improve and streamline the financial processesActively participate in new system implementations* SEC ReportingReview all financial statements, filings and auditsSupport investor relations activities and consult on communications with shareholders, investors, and the Board of DirectorsWork with finance leadership to create and maintain P&L and balance sheet analytics* External AuditorsEnsure strong internal control safeguards are implemented and maintained by working with external audit partners ensuring SOX complianceEnsure strong relationships between American Woodmark and external audit partners* PoliciesDevelop financial policies, procedures, systems, and other requirements based on changes in applicable laws, financial/accounting requirements, credit facilities and/or evolving needs to ensure financial integrity.Requirements* 15+ years experience as a finance leader within a publicly traded organization* 10+ years setting accounting standards and policy for a publicly traded organization* 5+ years of international experience with an emphasis on Mexico* Experience with Mexican GAAP, regulatory and banking protocol required* Bachelor’s in Accounting, advanced degree preferred* CPA required* ERP systems experience required – Oracle preferred* Understanding fundamentals of financial analysis principles* Proficiency in 10q, 10k, SOX, and SEC regulations* Core competencies in Accounting strategy, treasury, tax, and audit* Demonstrated ability of leading accounting operations and driving measured results through accounting strategy* Documented results of being a highly ethical business leader with strong planning and communication skills* 10+ years of leading and managing diverse teams of varying experience and skill-level and interacting with senior level business leaders.* Comfort working, leading and managing in a mixed office/remote environment* Strong communication skills with the ability to constructively explain business challenges to non-financial people as well as to effectively work cross-functionally with a variety of stakeholders at multiple levels. Must be able to clearly communicate to external audit partners, regulatory entities, and/or shareholders when necessary* Expert knowledge of Excel and PowerPointLanguage Skills:Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common financial and business journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to listen and communicate effectively with customers/clients and co-workers in an effort to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers/clients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community and public. Ability to develop presentations to be delivered to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.Mathematical Skills:Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts like exponents, algebra, quadratic equations and basic logic functions such as if-then-else statements. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as statistical and financial math calculations, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.Reasoning Ability:Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear.
